Our Story
Like many great ventures, UWorld began in a dorm room. Dr. Chandra Pemmasani, UWorld founder and CEO, noticed during his medical residency in 2001 that his USMLE® study materials were costly and poor quality. Frustrated, he created 250 case-based questions that he eventually shared in online forums. The response was tremendous. With high demand for more, Dr. Pemmasani recruited his brother and a roommate, both graduate students at Virginia Tech University. This collaboration marked the inception of USMLE World, which would later be renamed UWorld.
From modest beginnings, UWorld gradually expanded into what millions of medical students consider to be the gold standard of exam preparation and clinical curriculum supplementation.
